James Small
James Small is a young, exciting new name in British menswear– who uses the juxtaposition of classic tailoring with contemporary design throughout his collections. James worked with British menswear legend Kim Jones for six years before creating his own label and has carried on Jones’ approach of bringing a fresh and modern angle to traditional heritage design.
As a NEWGEN exhibitor for two consecutive seasons at London Fashion Week, James’ first two collections have been received with much critical acclaim. For his debut in AW/10, James’ ‘Ground Control’ collection referenced military uniform detailing with his beautifully cut, traditional tailoring, where he collaborated with Thom Whiddett of Thom Sweeney.
For SS/11 James has maintained his eye for detail and cut, whilst exploring a more hippy-inspired theme, looking to travel and the Woodstock era for inspiration. The collection features a mixture of tailored shorts, chiffon shirts and floral print jeans and James has also collaborated with W Hotels by designing the bespoke luxury W insider belt, to be sold exclusively at W London, the hotel chain’s new London home. The collection launched with a party at London Fashion Week in September 2010.
